The New Deal then and Now

Image
The new deal has affected our lives, and still impacts our lives today. In 1933 Congress passed the  Emergency Banking Act giving the government the chance to inspect the health of all banks. The Banking act established new faith in the American banking system. Now Americans do not have worry about bank failure.  The Federal Emergency Relief Act was put into place to give money to states that are or were previously struggling. The money given by the government was used to help provide food to the poor. This act mainly impacted the poor and unemployed. This act still impacts our lives today because we have things like food stamps, food banks, and homeless shelters to help those in need.  The Social Security Act passed by Congress in 1935. This act is meant to assist people after they retire from their jobs.  The momentarily unemployed can also receive aid from the state.  This law provides monthly aid for elderly, as well as helping handicapped and child...

The Museum of Tolerance: A Day that Changed Perspectives “Let us not forget, after all, that there is always a moment when the moral choice is made. Often because of one story or one book or one person, we are able to make a different choice, a choice for humanity, for life.” A quote by Elie Wiesel. In the past few months a lot has happened, to influence my choices as a person. We as a nation have gained a new president, Donald Trump. A person who I personally would never aspire to be anything like nor replicate any of his actions. Another thing that happened, I was diagnosed with Lyme disease, not really a big deal in the scheme of things, but was a pretty big deal for me. Then there was Febuary tenth about two weeks ago when everything was really put into perspective. Our teacher announced where we were going a few days before the trip. She explained that we would be taking a fieldtrip to the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. She told us it would be a hard day, but I had no...

The Museum of Tolerance

Image
Last Friday February 10, me and my class took a field trip to the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. the building was big, the outside was painted darkly while the inside was brightly lit and white painted walls. The whole museum smelled rather clean which is surprising given this is a museum to honor the Holocaust. As we walked through the museum you could almost feel the pain and suffering caused to so many people. Our guide was extremely intense filled with strong emotions. As we walked slowly through the museum many cried, understandably so. It was devastating to truly see and discover what awful things occurred during they Holocaust. To think that humans did that to other humans is devastating. After having been shown and told of all these terrible thing that occurred in the Holocaust, some call you a witness. Meaning you are a part of what horrible things occurred, not meaning you were there and you saw it. When someone says you are a witness it is then your responsibility to ...

Abraham Lincoln to Jefferson Davis --Creative Writing

Image
Dear Jefferson Davis, I am writing you today to seek an end to this devastating, and fatal war. For four years this war has raged on. I firmly believe that you and your states should come to join my country once again. I believe that if you join us once again we can resolve our disagreements, and truly become one nation. Both of us have already sustained immense tragedies not only in people but also supplies, land, and resources. If we continue at this rate there will be nothing left for your children and their children to come home too. Sincerely, Abraham Lincoln

Creative Writing for Class

Image
Dear President Taylor, I am writing to you today because I am currently a slave, and I can easily tell you that life as a slave is not at all easy. As we as a country expand westward I strongly believe that the territories that we decide to inhabit should be free states, giving slaves like me rights, and land. As we have just won California and Texas from the Mexicans I believe that both should be free states, and I believe that The compromise of 1850 is unfair. Because the slave laws are too harsh the fact that we can be brought back to the slave state and forced to work again is completely unfair. I believe that the compromise should be rethought and drawn up again. Thank you for you consideration Sincerely, Thomas Johnson

How Mars Came To Be

Image
Journey of Cooperation Through the Stars (creation myth for English) Long ago back when there were still people on Earth, and Mars was nothing but a red dot in the sky just waiting to be discovered. The people of earth had been trying to develop a way to live on Mars, back when the people of Earth had life on only one planet. A very wealthy and powerful man decided to fund the mission of the century, he would send 1,000 normal humans to the big red planet. It was the mission of the century, as the morning of the launch approached many people many people gathered to say goodbye to the 1,000 people boarding the ship.  As the ship launched legend says you could see Mars in the sky just as the ship took flight. As they flew through the sky through millions of stars and planets, legend says that they could see the spirits of the people who were going to live on mars for many years today. As they flew through the skies many arguments started to break out. Many people disagreed on h...

Martian Bill of Rights

Image
When humans colonize Mars, there will have to be a government in place in order for civilization of Mars to thrive. They will need to protect the rights of the people just like we do here on earth, here is what I believe their rights should be on Mars. 1. The right to self govern; once we have landed on mars and successfully created a stable community, the people on mars should not have to be governed by the people on earth but they should be able to govern themselves. 2. The right to communication with earth; everyone on mars should have a way to communicate with people back on earth no matter who you are you must be able to communicate with the people of earth 3. The right to form independent colonies; all the people on mars should be able to break of from the main group and form their own communities based on what they believe 4. Freedom of press; i believe that the freedom of the press should be the same on mars that it is here on earth, everyone should be able to say and expre...
