Mental Illness: Reducing Mental Illness Through Education On Earth over 400 million people are affected by mental illness. In the United States alone one in every five Americans suffers from mental illness. Mental illness is a health condition involving changes in behavior, emotion, or thinking. Mental illness is also associated with distress or an unstable environment. Although so many people in today’s world are affected by mental illness, some people still believe that mental illness is either not real or exaggerated. Too many people are affected by mental illness in today's modern world. In order to reduce the level of mental illness among adolescents implementation of this health course is imperative.    Many adults, as well as children, are diagnosed with a  mental illness. Surveys show that one in four children under the age of sixteen do not think mental illness is a real thing. (Mental Disorders) Mental illness is real. Disorders such as bipolar dis...

Mental Illness Abstract

Image
Mental illness real or not? Many people argue that mental illness is not a real illness, however I personally strongly disagree with this statement. To find the solution to this I plan to research more about this topic, and to create a survey asking whether or not people believe it is real.

To Rosa Parks

Image
Dear Ms. Parks, I am writing you to you today because I greatly appreciate all the work and the hardships you have overcome to allow everyone to have the same opportunities no matter what race, religion or sexuality. I appreciate your courage in bravery I myself can not image doing such a thing in such a dangerous time- sitting in the front of the bus at a time when that was unheard of I truly admire you. Were you scared? I would have been scared of people hurting me or the horrible things they would say. You however had the courage and audacity to do just that. You were key figure in the overall civil rights movement without you I doubt things would be the same as they are today. Thank you, Maria

Transformational Books

Image
The Handmaidens Tale is a transformational book for me. It shows how quickly the government could become something that controls people’s personal lives, including how they reproduce. The government in The Handmaiden’s Tale is so controlling that they even change the main characters name to Offred. Offred means “Of Fred”, the man of the household Offred is a slave in.This book is transformational because it made me realize that this could possibly happen in the future. It’s scary but I think it’s good that I read it because it made me think about the future differently.

The New Deal then and Now

Image
The new deal has affected our lives, and still impacts our lives today. In 1933 Congress passed the  Emergency Banking Act giving the government the chance to inspect the health of all banks. The Banking act established new faith in the American banking system. Now Americans do not have worry about bank failure.  The Federal Emergency Relief Act was put into place to give money to states that are or were previously struggling. The money given by the government was used to help provide food to the poor. This act mainly impacted the poor and unemployed. This act still impacts our lives today because we have things like food stamps, food banks, and homeless shelters to help those in need.  The Social Security Act passed by Congress in 1935. This act is meant to assist people after they retire from their jobs.  The momentarily unemployed can also receive aid from the state.  This law provides monthly aid for elderly, as well as helping handicapped and child...

The Museum of Tolerance: A Day that Changed Perspectives “Let us not forget, after all, that there is always a moment when the moral choice is made. Often because of one story or one book or one person, we are able to make a different choice, a choice for humanity, for life.” A quote by Elie Wiesel. In the past few months a lot has happened, to influence my choices as a person. We as a nation have gained a new president, Donald Trump. A person who I personally would never aspire to be anything like nor replicate any of his actions. Another thing that happened, I was diagnosed with Lyme disease, not really a big deal in the scheme of things, but was a pretty big deal for me. Then there was Febuary tenth about two weeks ago when everything was really put into perspective. Our teacher announced where we were going a few days before the trip. She explained that we would be taking a fieldtrip to the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. She told us it would be a hard day, but I had no...

The Museum of Tolerance

Image
Last Friday February 10, me and my class took a field trip to the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. the building was big, the outside was painted darkly while the inside was brightly lit and white painted walls. The whole museum smelled rather clean which is surprising given this is a museum to honor the Holocaust. As we walked through the museum you could almost feel the pain and suffering caused to so many people. Our guide was extremely intense filled with strong emotions. As we walked slowly through the museum many cried, understandably so. It was devastating to truly see and discover what awful things occurred during they Holocaust. To think that humans did that to other humans is devastating. After having been shown and told of all these terrible thing that occurred in the Holocaust, some call you a witness. Meaning you are a part of what horrible things occurred, not meaning you were there and you saw it. When someone says you are a witness it is then your responsibility to ...
