The New Deal then and Now

The new deal has affected our lives, and still impacts our lives today. In 1933 Congress passed the Emergency Banking Act giving the government the chance to inspect the health of all banks. The Banking act established new faith in the American banking system. Now Americans do not have worry about bank failure.

The Federal Emergency Relief Act was put into place to give money to states that are or were previously struggling. The money given by the government was used to help provide food to the poor. This act mainly impacted the poor and unemployed. This act still impacts our lives today because we have things like food stamps, food banks, and homeless shelters to help those in need.

The Social Security Act passed by Congress in 1935. This act is meant to assist people after they retire from their jobs. The momentarily unemployed can also receive aid from the state. This law provides monthly aid for elderly, as well as helping handicapped and children.

The National Recovery Administration was established by Congress to help increase the productions of goods. The act let competing companies work together to set prices, put a maximum limit on working hours, and create fair minimum wages. This act also gives the workers the right to bargain for contracts, and for unions. This act is still impacting our lives today because we still have a limit on working hours, and minimum wage.
