Where They're from

These are the characters from my book and why they are leaders. Mary is a leader in her own way, because she leaves the reservation. By leaving the reservation she inspires Junior to do the same.

Where I’m from
Mary

I'm from the hot and dusty Spokane Indian reservation
From dreams of a better life
Dreams of breaking free

From giver-uppers and traditionalists
From dreamers
I am from my writing
I am from keeping my passion a secret
From hiding my books under my mattress when ever someone walks by

From the basement which I spend most of my time
I am from my parents worrying about me
Breaking traditions
From losing hope on dreams
From being spontaneous and following what little happiness I've found

I am from out dated textbooks
From being thought of as a giver-upper
I am from following what will make me happy

I am from strength and perseverance
From growing poor and never knowing anything else

From wasted potential
I am from the nickname “Mary runs away”
From running away

Running to a better place

Rowdy is a leader in the sense of basketball, he leads his team very well. He is also a leader in the way that he inspires Junior to be tougher. He perseveres through abuse and many other things, and inspires others to do the same.

Where I'm from
Rowdy

I am from anger, and violence
From coming home to abuse
Coming home to a drunk and disappointing father

I am from being the protector of my best friend
From laughing at his amazing comics
From shooting hoops
And climbing the biggest tree on the reservation

I am from hiding my many emotions
From channeling all emotions into one emotion
Anger

I am from learning to fight and protect myself at a young age
From being hardened by life's challenges

I am from the unspoken rules of the reservation
From punching the rain
I am from knowing I will never go anywhere
From Junior always being better at school than me
